At NYEWASCO, our commitment to environmental sustainability is deeply rooted in action—and what better occasion to honor that commitment than Earth Day. In celebration of this global call to protect our planet, we planted 6,000 indigenous trees  at the Gatei Sewerage Treatment Works, marking a powerful step forward in our green journey.

This initiative is a key milestone under Strategic Plan 2021/2022 – 2025/2027, specifically Objective 6.5: Support Environment Conservation, which sets an ambitious target of 12,000 trees planted in 2025. With this effort, we’ve already achieved 50% of that goal—an achievement worth celebrating on a day that reminds us all of our shared responsibility to the Earth.

Earth Day is more than a date on the calendar. It is a global reminder that our planet’s health is in our hands. It urges us to think beyond today and take bold actions that will preserve and restore nature for generations to come. At NYEWASCO, we believe that such actions start right at home, through meaningful local initiatives like this tree-planting drive.

By planting indigenous trees, we are not only enriching the local ecosystem but also supporting biodiversity, restoring soil health, and enhancing carbon sequestration. These trees are resilient, adapted to our environment, and essential for maintaining the ecological balance of our region.

This Earth Day, we didn’t just plant trees—we planted hope, resilience, and a vision of sustainability. Every seedling in the soil is a promise: that we will continue to defend and nurture the natural resources that sustain us.

We extend our gratitude to all staff, partners, and community members who joined hands with us to make this initiative a success. Let this Earth Day be a reminder that together, we can shape a greener, healthier future.

Let’s continue to grow a legacy of sustainability—one tree at a time.
