NYEWASCO joined the Catholic Archdiocese of Nyeri, the County Government of Nyeri and other stakeholders for a tree-growing exercise at Laudato Si’ Paradise and Butterfly Sanctuary, Nyeri Hill Farm, on 10 October 2026, to mark Mazingira Day.
Held under the theme “Our Environment, Our Responsibility: Collective Action,” the event was graced by Nyeri Governor H.E. Mutahi Kahiga alongside His Grace Archbishop Anthony Muheria. It brought together clergy, representatives from the County Government, institutions and other stakeholders in a shared commitment to environmental conservation and climate action.
The exercise forms part of an initiative by the Catholic Archdiocese of Nyeri to transform 200 acres of land into a forest conservancy, incorporating nature trails, a butterfly sanctuary and other facilities that promote environmental education, recreation and sustainable development. Nurturing the planted seedlings to maturity will be essential to achieving the initiative’s long-term conservation goals.
For NYEWASCO, environmental conservation is closely linked to sustainable water service delivery. Protecting forests, restoring degraded landscapes and growing trees help safeguard water catchment areas and preserve the rivers and springs that sustain our communities.
Participation in the exercise reflects NYEWASCO’s commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to protect natural resources and promote long-term water security. It also reinforces the importance of extending environmental responsibility beyond commemorative events through continued care for trees and the protection of our water sources.
Plant a tree. Nurture it to maturity. Protect our water sources.
