In a moving demonstration of its commitment to community upliftment, NYEWASCO has extended a helping hand to the Thunguma Children and Youth Empowerment Centre by donating and delivering a 10,000-litre water tank. The Thunguma Children and Youth Empowerment Centre has been a beacon of hope in the community since its establishment in October 2006. As a community-based organization, it provides a sanctuary for over 130 children and young people; comprising 70% males and 30% females; offering them vital access to education, mentorship, life skills training, and their most basic needs. For an institution of this scale, the absence of a consistent water supply can pose a significant barrier to daily operations and the overall well-being of the residents. Recognizing this gap, NYEWASCO stepped in to provide a sustainable, long-term solution that aligns with our broader environmental and social goals.
At the heart of this donation is NYEWASCO’s strong advocacy for rainwater harvesting. With the region currently experiencing a productive rainy season, the timing of this installation is strategic and forward-looking. A 10,000-litre capacity allows the centre to effectively capture and store vast amounts of soft rainwater, reducing reliance on the main grid and providing a critical buffer against any potential inconsistencies in water access.
