NYEWASCO participated in the “Clear the Way, Save Nyeri – Keep Our Drainages Open Before the Rains” joint clean-up and drainage-clearing exercise held across Nyeri Town.
The initiative brought together the County Government of Nyeri through Nyeri Municipality, the Kenya National Secretaries Association (KENASA), Nyeri Maximum Prison and NYEWASCO in a collective effort to prepare the town for the anticipated heavy rains.
The exercise was officially flagged off at the Nyeri Town Hall grounds by H.E. Governor Mutahi Kahiga, Governor of Nyeri County. Participating teams then proceeded to designated areas, including Kenyatta Road, Kimathi Way, Gakere Road, the Rubis area and Masandukuni.
The exercise focused on clearing blocked drainage channels and removing accumulated waste to improve stormwater flow, reduce the risk of flooding and promote a cleaner and safer urban environment ahead of the rainy season.
Speaking during the exercise, participants emphasized the importance of collaboration among institutions, residents and businesses in maintaining clean and functional drainage systems. Improper disposal of plastics, polythene bags, bottles and other waste remains a major cause of blocked drainage channels, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
