Building on the momentum of last week’s interactive workshop, a high-level follow-up meeting was convened to transform the resolutions of the County Government and its five principal water service providers into a concrete roadmap for the future. Chaired by County Secretary Edward Irungu alongside the CECM for Water, Irrigation, Environment, and Climate Change, Hon. Fredrick Kinyua. The session marked a critical step in harmonizing the operations of Nyeri’s utility sector. NYEWASCO, alongside fellow providers OMWASCO, NARUWASCO, TEWASCO, and MAWASCO, was represented by its Managing Director and senior leadership, signaling a unified front in the pursuit of administrative and operational excellence.
The core objective of this meeting was to address the feedback gathered from workshop participants and translate it into a structured work plan. A primary focus of the discussions was the implementation of standardized Human Resource tools and policies. This move is designed to ensure that all water service providers are in full compliance with the guidelines set by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), the Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB), and the relevant County Acts. To achieve this, the meeting initiated a comprehensive assessment of current HR frameworks within each company, establishing a clear baseline that will guide the transition toward a more integrated and professional operational structure.
This initiative is a direct reflection of the vision held by H.E. Governor Dr. Mwalimu Mutahi Kahiga, whose “employees first” mantra continues to drive reforms across the Nyeri County public service. By envisioning a standardized and equitable working environment for all staff, the Governor aims to foster a positive professional atmosphere that maximizes productivity and ensures service delivery remains above par. For NYEWASCO, this alignment means not only adhering to regulatory standards but also strengthening its internal culture to better serve the people of Nyeri.
Throughout the process, the emphasis has remained on ownership and consensus-building. By ensuring that all managing directors and top officials are active participants in these discussions, the county is facilitating a smooth transition into these established operational frameworks. As planning and projections remain ongoing, the collaborative efforts between the County Government and the water service providers underscore a shared commitment to professionalism and efficiency. For the customers of NYEWASCO and the wider county, these administrative refinements are a promise of more reliable, transparent, and high-quality service delivery in the years to come.
