In a significant stride toward achieving universal water access and infrastructure resilience, NYEWASCO management, led by Managing Director Eng. Peter Kahuthu, recently hosted a high-level delegation from the Water Sector Trust Fund (WSTF) for an extensive field evaluation of ongoing projects. As a vital State Corporation under the Ministry of Water, the WSTF plays a pivotal role in financing water and sanitation services in marginalized and under-served areas. This visit was not merely a routine inspection but a powerful gathering of key sector players, including representatives from the National Treasury, the Water Resources Authority (WRA), and the Council of Governors (CoG), all unified by a mission to enhance service delivery for the people of Nyeri.

The day’s proceedings commenced with a diplomatic courtesy call to the County Commissioner’s office. This initial engagement set a collaborative tone for the mission, with discussions centering on the sustainable management of our water resources and the security of vital infrastructure. From there, the delegation moved to the field to assess the practical impact of WSTF-funded investments. The tour included the Nyeri CLSG II Projects, specifically the Nyeri Hill Water Tank, a critical asset for regional storage and distribution. Stakeholders also visited the Nyeri OBA Project at the King’ong’o Pumping Station, where they were able to witness firsthand the technical progress and the rigorous implementation efforts that NYEWASCO has undertaken to ensure project success and value for money.

The mission culminated in a high-profile visit to the Governor’s Office, where the delegation was joined by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Water, Irrigation, Environment, and Climate Change, Hon. Fredrick Kinyua, and the WaterFund CEO, Willis Ombai. This roundtable discussion focused on the long-term vision for the sector, emphasizing the need for strengthened collaboration between the National Government, County Government, and implementing utilities. The dialogue underscored that the development of water infrastructure is a shared responsibility that requires the pooling of technical expertise, financial resources, and political goodwill.

This comprehensive visit underscores a profound shared commitment to improving the quality of life for our community. Through the conditional and unconditional grants provided by the WaterFund, NYEWASCO is able to bridge the gap in service delivery, specifically reaching those in under-served areas. By showcasing the tangible progress made at King’ong’o and Nyeri Hill, we have demonstrated that these investments are being managed with the highest levels of professionalism and transparency. As we look to the future, the continued partnership between NYEWASCO, WSTF, and our national and county stakeholders remains the cornerstone of a more resilient and sustainable water future for the region.
